Decision support built for how Canadian families actually plan
We build tools that help households weigh long-term financial decisions with clearer, more dynamic information than static spreadsheets allow.
Why we started Slate Capivex
Slate Capivex began with a simple observation: most financial planning tools available to households are either too generic to be useful or too complex to use without a professional advisor sitting beside you. Families making decisions about mortgages, education savings, retirement timing, or major purchases were stuck choosing between oversimplified calculators and dense financial software built for institutions.
We set out to build something in between — a platform that models the real trade-offs involved in long-term financial choices, updates as circumstances change, and presents the results in a way that supports confident decision-making without requiring a finance degree to interpret.
Helping households plan with clarity, not guesswork
Our mission is to give Canadian families access to decision-optimization tools that reflect the complexity of real financial lives — multiple goals, shifting constraints, and decisions that compound over years, not months.
Clarity over complexity
We translate complicated financial modeling into outputs that are straightforward to read and act on, without hiding the reasoning behind them.
Decisions, not just data
We focus on the moments where a choice has to be made — not just dashboards of numbers with no clear next step attached.
Built for real households
Our models are designed around the kinds of decisions Canadian families actually face, not generic financial theory.
The principles behind how we build
These are the standards we hold ourselves to as we design and refine the Slate Capivex platform.
Transparency in modeling
We believe users should be able to understand, at a reasonable level, why a recommendation is being made — not just accept a black-box output.
Respect for nuance
Financial decisions rarely have a single right answer. We design for trade-offs and ranges rather than false certainty.
Continuous refinement
We treat our platform as a work in progress, improving how it models decisions as we learn more about the problems families face.
A small, focused group
Slate Capivex is built by a team that brings together backgrounds in financial modeling, software design, and product development. We're intentionally structured to stay close to the problem we're solving — spending as much time understanding how families actually make decisions as we do writing the code that supports them.
